TEDx |
September 9th 2017,
The moonshot TEDxUTP will always be one of the most amazing day of my life. I
flight from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur just to attend this event. I have never
found my self join in the a hall th at
really full of a positive atmosphere even actually I have ever attended another
TEDx event in Indonesia but this is one of great TEDx that I’ve ever come. You
can imagine how lucky I’m, Immerse my self in this event make my energy completely
full of positive mind. You can imagine this scenario, you are in the hall
filled with over 200 people, and you have over 15 amazing and inspiring people
walking up the stage and giving their speech of life inspiring you.
I felt positive thoughts came to
my mind and energy resonating around that room. Everyone was so pumped up,
motivated and ready to face the world. Well that was what exactly going on Themoonshot TEDxUTP.
TED is a nonprofit organization
devoted to ideas worth spreading. Started as a four-day conference in
California 2 years ago, TED has grown to support those world changing ideas
with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are
asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made
available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane
Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Bronson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe
Stark, etc. Two major of TED events are held each year: The TED Conference
takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel
conference TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TED summer is held each summer in
Edinburgh, Scotland.
And about x = independently organized event. In the spirit of
ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that
bring people together to share a TED-Like experience. At TEDx event, TEDTalks
video and life speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a
small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x =
independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance
for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (subject
to certain and regulations).
And this event took place in
Universiti Teknologi of PETRONAS (UTP) which is The UTP is a Malaysian private
university. It was established on 10 January 17. The campus is built on 400
hectares at Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. The university is a wholly owned
subsidiary of PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia. I like the
environment of this college even though When I was there, I didn’t find a lot
of student maybe it because of still holiday. And I felt grateful when I got this campus because I need a lot of
effort to get there, I thought before that this campus was near by KL Center
but at the end I realized that Seri Iskandar is quite far like Jakarta to
Bandung, but I have unforgettable moment when I try to find this campus,
actually I just try to follow the direction to get this college from my friend
who has invited me into this event, even I have been Malaysia for several time
but I’m still confused when Malaysian talks to me with Malay language even we
are Serumpun in the fact sometimes I
found that our language is completely different so I decided to speak English entire
this journey but there were a lot of Malaysian didn’t believe that I couldn’t
speak Malay at that time I just said sorry I couldn’t speak Malay, I’m an
Indonesian, ok, for instance I was there but it was not exactly in front of UTP
because the bus driver just stopped in the front a gasoline station and he said
that the college is near here and I said ok, after I found my self so confused
because this is the night and the way is
quite quiet and then I just stopped by
into a minimarket the I bought some water and snack then I asked to a shop man
where’s the UTP exactly and he said that actually the campus is not so far from
here but it will be far when you walk hahhaha. When I was talking with the man
suddenly there was a man who was asking me with Malay and suddenly he offered
me to join with his car because he also part of this event without thinking any
further I said yes and I’m heading to the college with him and in the there
were 3 another guys and he said that they were a speaker for TEDxUTP in my
heart I say there will always kind people everywhere to help thank you God.
What is moonshot thinking ?, the
combination of a huge problem, a radical solution of that problem, and the
breakthrough technology that just might make that solution possible, is the
essence of a moonshot. The term “Moonshot” derives from the Apollo 11
spaceflight project, which landed “Moonshot” may also reference the earlier
phrase “shoot for the moon” meaning aim for a lofty target.
The speaker in this event was so
amazing they brought positive vibes to me such as Jerryson Abraham Doss, Gautam Khetrapal, Zaim Mohzani, Lu Xanne Boon,
Aziph Mustapha, David Amuthesan, Rene F
Bernard, Jeff McDonald, Dr Mahaletchumy Arujunan, Chris Lau, Dr Hartini
Zainudin, Mohd SirHajwan, Aleu Mazok etc. They are such an inspiring speaker
at this event from many prophecy one of my favorite talk of the day was done by
Chris Lau actually he is a
free-lance journalist who believes that dreams can make this contradicting
world a better place, after his first backpacking in the age of 19, he ventured
into long term news reporting on war zone, human rights and social issues. Many
times of near-death experiences happened in war torn countries give him a
contemplation to appreciate having a peaceful life in Malaysia. “If you have
never experienced war and conflict, it is hardly to know how precious it is to
live in peace” he said. While his travelling to Syria and Afghanistan to cover
on the conflicts news reporting three times respectively. He spoke to us about
his journey and he enlightened our views about his experience and made us
travelled into his journey which showed us how he communicated to the local and
talked about war. He brought us close that life and made us realize why is it
so important to have experience and heard with heart. It was such a strong and
powerful talk. And this is what we need more in universities even I’m not
college student anymore. We need to know about a lot of global issue and have
experience with it. It’s actually not only enough we talk about being
successful but it is equally important for students.
